ST HELIERS BAY
St Heliers Bay theres a lot I could say!
Its a beautiful place to be
A still, warm day, seagulls at play
Shall I tell you what else I see?
The gentle waves lap on the sand
Palm trees wave up on the land
Beside The Parade, Vellenoweth Green
This is all part of our beach scene.
Shells crunching under my feet
Seaweed draped where sea and sand meet
Oystercatcher peeps his inquisitive song
Drilling the foreshore with his beak so long.
Now the wind whips up the waves on the wall
Splashing at me as I walk
Breeze on my face, sun at my back
No place better in the world at all.
On I walk, past cafes, library, shops
Carparks, monuments and busy bus stops
A playground of fun for all little ones
Green seats to enjoy Rangitoto in the sun.
Cliff Road rises a street of surprises
Houses old and new
Homes of all sizes; sunsets, sunrises
A view for me and you.
Dingle Dell adventures, with bikes to push
Native trees towering among the dense bush
Tui at play in a kauri tree
Whistling and calling hes happy, like me.
Huge Moreton Bay fig trees, and star, lit at night
Pohutukawa at Christmas a sweet crimson sight
All of this is the essence I see
Of St Heliers Bay for you and for me.
A poem by Holly and Christine.
